Small Change Oyster Bar

Oysters! Wines! Good times! Small Change Oyster Bar is a seafood and natural wine centered restaurant in the Temescal neighborhood of Oakland. Small Change is a reference to the name of the owner’s grandfather’s fishing boat, which was a play on the family’s last name “Nichols”. A story that personal couldn’t help but conjure up fun and witty imagery to be used through out different areas of the brand’s identity. Swapping the pearl in an oyster for a shiny 5 cent piece to encapsulated the brand story in a single mark.

Bringing in inspiration from mid-century American diner ephemera and interiors were key to rounding out the feel for the rest of the brand. Inspired by a classic way of dining, we set to create brand touch points that will greet diners from the plates to the matchbooks to the wax paper under your food.
