SAN FRANCISCO BAY FERRY

I worked with San Francisco Bay Ferry to develop an identity for merchandise that encompasses the city of Richmond and speaks to that local ridership. The ask was to create an illustrated identity that ferry riders of the city of Richmond could connect with. The finished piece would eventually be applied to a variety of merchandise to let riders show off their dedicated route. After considering a variety of illustration styles and concepts we landed on the idea of representing landmarks from the unique places each commuter travels from daily.

We surveyed iconic landmarks of Richmond and decided on three that would best represent the area as iconography. The Richmond Ferry Terminal, Ferry Tunnel and East Brothers Lighthouse were selected and translated into a simple and bold line style that would capture them as immediately recognizable. These modular illustrations were then worked into a single emblem with a vessel to tie together the entire concept. With an illustration style established we extended it to digital assets for the organization’s “Discovery Program”.
